Quicksilver, that amazing application which, under the guise of an “application launcher”, transforms the way you work on your Mac. Providing control over every aspect of your system from changing the Desktop background to moving, copying, deleting or browsing files, the real success story behind Quicksilver is its ability to evolve.
This plugin no longer works with the latest version of MAMP.
Via plugins, you’re able to automate almost every facet of your Mac. Resizing pictures is a snap; just install the Image Manipulation plugin. Want easy access to your Keychain to recall passwords? The Keychain module is for you. Most of the popular applications have Quicksilver plugin counterparts that let you control them. One of the apps yet to follow the lead is MAMP.
While living-e provide a handy widget that enables turning the MAMP servers on and off, it’s cumbersome, takes up space on a cluttered Dashboard, and just increases the start-up time for your Mac. Enter the MAMP plugin for Quicksilver.
I wrote this plugin out of annoyance. On the one hand, I don’t want to have MAMP.app load whenever I turn on my computer, but if I don’t, that means loading up Dashboard (which takes several seconds) then turning the servers on from the widget. Using this plugin, I can turn the servers on and off in seconds.
Documentation for Quicksilver is sketchy at best, and not always completely reliable, so I couldn’t find how to make the start and stop servers actions come up only when MAMP.app was selected. This ended up being a good thing. The actions are available for almost all file types, so if I’m working on a project (such as Gregarious) and a document is already selected in Quicksilver, I don’t have to change it.
Once installed, the “Start Servers” and “Stop Servers” actions are available once any file is selected. I hope someone finds this as useful as I do (and sends me a nice hearty greeting).

Is it installing?
If it’s installed, then choose MAMP.app in Quicksilver, and you can run the “Start servers” or “Stop servers” actions.
In actual fact you can choose any file or folder then run the action.
Oh, and you need MAMP installed.

Hi Ankur, thanks for building and distributing this plugin! Unfortunately, it doesn’t work on my machine. I’ve installed the plugin, restarted QS and see the Start Servers and Stop Servers actions when I run QS, but neither command does anything when they are executed. I tried starting the servers from the MAMP app to see if the QS command would stop them, but that didn’t work I’m running on a MacBook Pro.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Hi Alex, are you using MAMP Pro? The plugin doesn’t yet work with it, so if you’re using that, nothing will happen.

Hi Ankur, thanks for the speedy response. I am not using the Pro version, I am using the free one - version 1.6. But these days, they both come in a single package if that makes a difference.

Hi Ankur, I am experiencing the same problem as Alex. I can’t seem to get QS plug-ins to turn on or off the MAMP 1.6 (none pro version) servers. Just to clarify if this isn’t a user problem. I first bring up MAMP into QS’ application selection, then tabs and selects start/stop servers. Am I following the right procedure??

With MAMP Pro, it’s working partially… I’m pretty sure this is due to some change in the upgraded version of MAMP. I’ll research it and hopefully get a fix within a day or two.
