This version’s not publicly available yet. Austin & Co. (developers of the application that uses this effect) need to be contacted, and I need to have an option to turn the smoke on / off. It cools down automatically when the interface is hidden, but I’m sure not everyone likes passive smoking.
Doesn’t it look fantastic?
Another update I’ve made is using bezier paths and curves to draw the interface, rather than letting Quicksilver render it. It had to be done eventually, so I might as well do it sooner rather than later. The fill and the white border were rendered using paths, but obviously they’ll be cleaned up to look good as development progresses.
A preference pane will be among us soon, and possibly a hint of customization in the results pane / drawer. The interface will also be getting a stretch and redesign to make it appear more like the actual concept by Pavel.
Now, can we get some feedback please?
Update: Major updates to all aspects of the interface. See here.

Leave a commentI’m not sure why I would ever use this.
But I know that I will.

That looks incredible, any chance of a mov?

The mockup looks nothing short of amazing. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Why would QuickSilver ever need to smoke, though?

Thank you all.
I’ll capture a short mov later of the interface and smoke effect. I don’t think Quicksilver would ever really need to smoke, but it’s a fun effect. I’m thinking of releasing two versions when its completed. One that smokes and one that doesn’t.
I actually got the idea for a smoking interface from the name. ( I think ‘fumo’ is ’smoke’ in Italian? )

Exactly:) Fumo is italian for Smoke. Maybe ’smoke’ effect is useless, but this is definitly fun thing.

Hey, that does look very nice. I think Quicksilver needs a lot of work on it’s UI, and using beziers is a very good idea. Did you you Toxic’s howto on using the framework, or did you make some headers yourself?

Oh, and I’d love a copy

Thanks, Sebastiaan.
I did get the idea from Toxic Software, but getting the headers out is fairly straightforward.
I’ll release a copy of it just as soon as I make it a little better.

I’d love to leave feedback but have nothing to play with to leave feedback for…
The interface seems to be coming along nicely. The smoke is certainy useless but it looks great.

It looks awesome! I love having useless effects like the smoke to just make stuff look cool. I can’t wait for the final release. One thing I’d really like to see, though is a different look for the menu that pops up when you press the “down” key. Right now, every interface has the same “Primer” feel to it’s action menu, which, in my humble opinion doesn’t fit well with a bezel type interface, my favorite so far. That’s what I really liked about the original concept: a new look for the subject/action menu.
